HOW TO PREPARE AND PASS EXAMINATION.

Examination, according to the Oxford advance dictionary is “ a formal written or spoken test, especially at school or college, to see how much you know about a subject ”.
In a broad perspective, examination is an instrument for testing, assessment, placement, evaluation and accreditation. It is used for the purpose of selection, placement, certification and promotion as the case may be.
       It has been observed that the lackadaisical attitude exhibited by most students bis affecting their success in examination.    REASON WHY STUDENTS FAIL EXAMINATIONS;
There are my rialds of discernible reasons aducable for the causes of failure in examination. Some of such reasons are highlighted as follow:

    1. Inadequate Preparation:
Many students do not make noticeable preparations towards their examination until few days to the examination or when the examination time table is out.
    2. Inappropriate study
HABITS; It has been observed that many students are still adopting the old and obsolete methods of testing and testing preparation; these are not compatible with good study habit. Some of these habits are:
     (a) CRAMMING: cramming does not work. It often prove unsuccessful in that it, easily lead the students in question to write off point the required answer of the examiner.
     (b) PASSIVE LEARNING: another way in which the adequate of a student's preparation is undermined is the way such a student engages in passive study . Many students read few marking guides few times believing this will assist them in passing their examination very well. Study has shown that a more  ,“active” learning approach result in greater learning. some students also regard themselves as having magnetic brain with a very high retentive tendencies but, the outcome of examination reports have proved all of them wrong.
       (c) EXAMINATIONS ANXIETY:  A little anxiety is a good thing; it profits a student as it keeps a learner motivated and alert. However, too much anxiety, usually occasioned by fear of failing examination actually leads to failure.
      (d) LACK OF REQUEST APPROACH TO ANSWERING QUESTIONS: Students' ignorance on the appropriate approach in answering questions accordingly is another problem militating against students' success in examination.

THE WAY OUT; If well employed, the following tips will assist students in passing any kind of examination.
      (a) Adequate Preparation: Examination is not a test of things read when the examination time table is out but the accumulation of what is being learnt with time. In a nutshell, preparation for Examination should be very time not a specific time. Students should endeavor to increase their knowledge database with at least gaining each new thing each day.
¡. Sleep well:  Do not read all the night; you need at least six hours of sleep each day to make you start the other day fresh.
¡¡. Eat well: Eating proper meals at the appropriate times is very important. This will enable you to have enough energy to enable you tackle your daily studies.
¡¡¡. Talk to Someone: If preparing for an examination or thinking about an examination is making any student ill, worried or depressed, such students should not hide their feelings. The student should talk to someone about it.A problem shared is a problem half solved.
¡v. Take Breaks: The span of concentration of a human being is forty minutes at a time. so, do not task yourself by trying to cram as many information as possible for hours. When your mind is saturated with information not minding the number of hours you put in, nothing will go in ; stop and refresh your brain.
        V.  Exercise: you need to exercise your body so as to have perfect physical and mental alertness that will help in passing examination.
V¡.  Adopt Good Study Habit: Avoiding adopting the habit of cramming as a means of passing examination and also, study materials should not be limited to a few materials. The student endeavor to read wide enough to cover all that is required for passing the examination.
Vii.  Calm Down In The Examination Hall: candidates should reduce anxiety to the nearest minimum. They should allow their concentration and coordination to be affected by Examination fear but rather, they should be optimistic and calm about the examination.
In conclusion, any examination should not be a stumbling block to any student but rather, a way to achieve success. Therefore all students should take all examination serious and prepare by adopting good study habits. Thus, the sky will be the beginning when we talk of success.
